Street preacher, outsider artist, and one-of-a-kind gospel voice, Sister Gertrude Morgan recorded this album in New Orleans, where she built her ministry from the ground up. Her raw, unaccompanied vocal style sits outside every mainstream tradition, closer to field hollers and spiritual ecstasy than anything shaped by the recording industry. For collectors of American vernacular music, this white vinyl pressing is a genuine artifact.
Sister Gertrude Morgan was many things - a minister, a preacher, an artist, a teacher, and a musician. Her artwork (which hangs in the Smithsonian) contains scriptures - sacred messages and principles to live by. She would charismatically pull you into her orbit as she often spontaneously broke into song - not preaching as much as telling a story. Sister Gertrude preaches a universal message of an all loving power. This is the first reissue on vinyl since it's original release in 1970.
