Shred guitar's academic wing has always had a home in the metal underground, and Joe Stump has been one of its most dedicated practitioners, a Berklee-trained axeman who treats classical counterpoint and Baroque structure as fuel for high-velocity riffing. "Lord of the Strings" plants him squarely in the neoclassical tradition that runs through Yngwie Malmsteen, bringing technical precision without sacrificing the visceral punch that keeps it honest.
