Alligator Records was founded in Chicago in 1971 by Bruce Iglauer, who started the label specifically to record Hound Dog Taylor because no one else would. What followed was five decades of uncompromising electric blues that kept the music raw, regional, and alive at a time when the mainstream wasn't paying attention. This collection traces that lineage from the South Side to the swamps to the Texas roadhouses, making the case that no independent label has done more to document American blues in the modern era.
3-CD collection celebrating fifty years of classic, genre-defining recordings by a star-studded Who's Who of American blues and roots music artists past and present, featuring HOUND DOG TAYLOR, CHRISTONE "KINGFISH" INGRAM, J.J. GREY & MOFRO, KOKO TAYLOR, JOHNNY WINTER, TOMMY CASTRO, MARCIA BALL, ALBERT COLLINS, LUTHER ALLISON, JAMES COTTON, TORONZO CANNON and many more! Three-CD set features 58 songs (over 230 minutes of music) celebrating the 50th anniversary of the world's premier blues label. CDs packaged in an 8-panel, 4-pocket CD wallet with 40-page color booklet.
