The Temper Trap

The Temper Trap are an Australian indie rock band formed in 2005 by Dougy Mandagi, Jonathon Aherne, and Toby Dundas. Built on a foundation of infectious melodies and atmospheric production, the group carved out a distinctive niche in the indie rock landscape before relocating from Melbourne to London in 2008 to pursue greater international success. Their decision to expand their reach beyond Australia would prove pivotal, establishing them as a force in the global alternative music scene.
The band's breakthrough arrived with their debut album Conditions, released in June 2009 to critical acclaim and impressive commercial performance, reaching No. 9 on the ARIA Albums Chart and cracking the UK top 30. The album's lead single, "Sweet Disposition," became their calling card, climbing into the top 10 across Belgium, Ireland, and the UK while reaching No. 14 on the ARIA Singles Chart. Their momentum continued with their self-titled second album in May 2012, which earned them the ARIA Award for Best Rock Album. By the time guitarist Lorenzo Sillitto departed in October 2013, The Temper Trap had already established themselves as one of Australia's most successful modern rock exports.
With multiple ARIA Awards to their name — including Best Group honors in both 2010 and 2012 — The Temper Trap solidified their legacy as architects of sophisticated indie rock. Their evolution from a Melbourne-based outfit to an internationally recognized act underscored both their artistic ambition and their ability to craft songs that resonated across borders, cementing their place among the defining alternative rock bands of their generation.
