Stevie Wonder

Stevland Hardaway Morris, professionally known as Stevie Wonder, is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Born May 13, 1950, and blind since shortly after his birth, Wonder became a child prodigy who signed with Motown's Tamla label at age 11. At just 13 years old, his single "Fingertips" topped the Billboard Hot 100, making him the youngest solo artist ever to achieve that feat. Throughout his career, Wonder has pioneered the use of synthesizers and electronic instruments in R&B, fundamentally reshaping the genre and establishing himself as a visionary across multiple musical styles including pop, soul, gospel, funk, and jazz.
Wonder's artistic peak — what critics have termed his "classic period" (1972–1976) — marked a revolutionary shift in his sound with albums like Music of My Mind, Talking Book (1972), Innervisions (1973), Fulfillingness' First Finale (1974), and Songs in the Key of Life (1976). These synthesizer-driven masterpieces abandoned the Motown sound in favor of cohesive, socially conscious statements with complex compositions. Wonder became the first Black musician to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year and the only artist to achieve that honor with three consecutive album releases. His 1980s renaissance saw international cultural dominance through high-profile collaborations with Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, while his advocacy — including his pivotal 1980 campaign to make Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday a federal holiday — cemented his status as a cultural icon. He returned to the top five of the Billboard 200 with A Time to Love (2005) and has remained active in music and political causes ever since.
Wonder stands among the best-selling music artists of all time with over 100 million records sold worldwide. He holds 25 Grammy Awards — the most by any male solo artist — plus an Academy Award, and is inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Songwriters Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone ranked him in the top 10 among both the greatest singers and greatest songwriters of all time. In 2009, Wonder was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace, and in 2014, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, underscoring his profound cultural and humanitarian legacy.
