Slayer is an American thrash metal band formed in Huntington Park, California, in 1981, known for their aggressive sound, rapid-fire drumming, and dark lyrical themes that pushed the boundaries of heavy metal music. The band, featuring guitarist Kerry King and the late Jeff Hanneman, achieved massive commercial success with landmark albums like Reign in Blood and South of Heaven, establishing themselves as one of the "Big Four" thrash metal bands alongside Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax. With decades of influential touring and recordings, Slayer cemented their legacy as one of the most important and controversial figures in metal history before disbanding in 2019.
