SBTRKT

Aaron Jerome Foulds, known professionally as SBTRKT (a stylized disemvowelment of "subtract"), is an English musician, songwriter, and record producer who has carved out a distinctive career built on anonymity and artistic experimentation. Born of mixed-race South Asian heritage — Kenyan Goan and Scottish — Jerome has established himself as a forward-thinking electronic artist who deliberately keeps the focus on his music rather than his persona. To reinforce this philosophy, he famously performed live while wearing ceremonial masks inspired by South American and South Asian traditions, designed by the anonymous artist "A Hidden Place," allowing his sonic innovations to take center stage.
Throughout his career, SBTRKT has earned recognition through high-profile remix work for artists including M.I.A, Radiohead, Modeselektor, Basement Jaxx, Mark Ronson, and Underworld, while his original material has gained consistent support from BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 Music. His live performances from 2010 to 2012 featured frequent collaborator Sampha on vocals and keyboards, creating a dynamic interplay between Jerome's synthesizers and drum programming. After a nine-year gap between album releases, SBTRKT returned with The Rat Road in May 2023, marking a significant milestone in his artistic journey and signaling his continued commitment to evolving his electronic sound on his own terms.
SBTRKT's influence extends beyond his own discography — his approach to production and remix work has made him a respected figure in contemporary electronic music. His deliberate anonymity and rejection of conventional self-promotion have become part of his artistic brand, demonstrating that innovation and quality craftsmanship can speak louder than personal celebrity. With The Rat Road, Jerome proved that his hiatus only strengthened his creative vision, solidifying his status as one of electronic music's most thoughtful and uncompromising artists.
