Save Ferris

Save Ferris is an American ska punk band that emerged from Orange County, California's vibrant underground music scene circa 1995, taking their name from the beloved 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. After cutting their teeth performing in Southern California venues, the band quickly caught the attention of industry insiders, winning a Grammy showcase award for best unsigned band in 1996 and securing a contract with Epic Records. This early success positioned them as rising stars in the ska-punk movement during the genre's mid-90s resurgence.
Save Ferris released their debut full-length album It Means Everything in 1997, which became their defining statement. The band is best remembered for their energetic 1997 cover of "Come On Eileen," the iconic new wave track originally recorded by Dexys Midnight Runners, which introduced the group to mainstream audiences. By 1999, the band transitioned from their ska-pop roots into the pop-punk sound that was dominating alternative radio, demonstrating their willingness to evolve with the musical landscape. Following a period of hiatus, Save Ferris returned in 2017 with the Checkered Past EP, signaling a creative revival and reconnecting with longtime fans who cherished their legacy.
While Save Ferris experienced their commercial peak during the late 90s, their impact on the ska-punk genre remains significant. Their Grammy recognition and ability to reach mainstream audiences with their pop-influenced take on ska established them as key players during a pivotal moment in alternative music history. The enduring popularity of their "Come On Eileen" cover continues to introduce new generations to the band's infectious energy and playful musical sensibility.
