Savatage is an American heavy metal band formed in 1981 that became pioneers of progressive and theatrical metal throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Led by guitarist Criss Oliva and vocalist Jon Oliva, the band is known for their concept albums and elaborate live performances that blended metal with symphonic elements. Though Criss Oliva's tragic death in 1993 marked a turning point, Savatage continued to evolve and influence the metal scene for decades to come.
