Pimp C

Chad Lamont Butler, professionally known as Pimp C, was an American rapper and record producer best known for his work as one half of the influential hip-hop duo Underground Kingz (UGK) alongside Bun B. After signing with Jive Records in 1992, the group quickly established themselves as major players in Southern hip-hop with their critically acclaimed major-label debut Too Hard to Swallow. UGK's subsequent releases — including Super Tight (1994) and Ridin' Dirty (1996) — solidified their commercial presence on the Billboard 200, while their appearance on Jay-Z's 2000 hit "Big Pimpin'" elevated them to national prominence.
After UGK entered a hiatus in the early 2000s due to Pimp C's eight-year prison sentence for a probation violation, the rapper pursued a solo career during his incarceration and beyond. He released his solo debut The Sweet James Jones Stories in 2005, followed by Pimpalation in 2006 after his December 2005 release from prison. UGK reunited for their eponymous fifth studio album in 2007, which featured the Billboard Hot 100-charting single "International Players Anthem (I Choose You)" with OutKast, marking a triumphant return before Pimp C's untimely death on December 4, 2007.
Though his life was cut short, Pimp C's legacy as a pioneering voice in Southern hip-hop remains indelible. His distinctive vocal delivery and production sensibilities helped define UGK's sound and contributed significantly to the broader landscape of 1990s and 2000s rap. The rapper's influence continues to resonate throughout hip-hop, with his work standing as a testament to his innovative approach to the genre.
