Morphine was an alternative rock band from Cambridge, Massachusetts, formed in 1989 and known for their distinctive two-bass-guitar sound and hypnotic, noir-influenced aesthetic. Led by vocalist and baritone saxophonist Mark Sandman, the band created a unique sonic landscape that blended rock, jazz, and blues elements across their albums throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. Though the band disbanded following Sandman's death in 2002, their innovative approach to instrumentation and moody, introspective songwriting left a lasting impact on alternative music.
