Irish singer, songwriter, and composer Lisa Hannigan has established herself as a distinctive voice in contemporary folk and indie music since launching her solo career in 2007. Born on February 12, 1981, Hannigan initially gained recognition as a member of Damien Rice's backing band before stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist. Her ethereal vocal delivery and introspective songwriting style have garnered critical acclaim and award nominations across Ireland and the United States, solidifying her reputation as a compelling artist in her own right.
Hannigan's solo discography showcases her evolution as a composer and vocalist across three albums: the haunting Sea Sew (2008), which introduced audiences to her delicate arrangements and poignant melodies; Passenger (2011), which further refined her sonic palette; and At Swim (2016), her most recent full-length work. Beyond her recorded output, Hannigan has expanded her artistic reach into voice acting, drawing significant attention in North America for her role as Blue Diamond in the acclaimed animated series Steven Universe, created by Rebecca Sugar.
With a body of work that spans intimate acoustic arrangements to more expansive sonic landscapes, Hannigan has proven herself to be a multifaceted artist whose influence extends across music and television. Her contributions to both mediums reflect a commitment to nuanced storytelling and emotional authenticity, cementing her status as a respected figure in contemporary entertainment.
