Kate Nash

Kate Nash is an English singer, songwriter, and actress who emerged from the UK indie pop scene in the mid-2000s with a distinctive blend of witty lyricism and pop sensibility. Born on July 6, 1987, Nash quickly made an impact with her breakthrough single "Foundations" (2007), which reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart and introduced audiences to her charming, conversational songwriting style. Her debut album Made of Bricks (2007) cemented her commercial success, reaching number 1 on the UK Albums Chart and establishing her as one of the leading voices in indie pop of her generation.
Following the success of her early work, Nash continued to chart with the single "Do-Wah-Doo" (2010) and the album My Best Friend Is You (2010), which peaked at number 8 on the UK Albums Chart. However, seeking to evolve beyond her indie pop roots, Nash's subsequent artistic direction led her to part ways with her record label. She independently released three EPs and took control of her own artistic vision with albums Girl Talk (2013) and Yesterday Was Forever (2018) on her own imprint. Her most recent album, 9 Sad Symphonies, arrived in 2024 on Kill Rock Stars, showcasing her continued commitment to artistic exploration. Beyond music, Nash has built a parallel acting career, notably playing Rhonda "Britannica" Richardson in Netflix's critically acclaimed comedy-drama series GLOW (2017–2019) and appearing in films including Greetings from Tim Buckley (2012) and Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans (2019).
Throughout her career, Nash has proven herself a versatile artist unafraid to take creative risks. Her songwriting talents have extended beyond her own releases, as evidenced by her co-writing contribution to Rita Ora's hit "Poison" and collaborations with diverse artists spanning genres from grime to indie rock, including Kano, Lethal Bizzle, Fidlar, and Watsky. Her journey from chart-topping indie darling to independent artist and actress reflects an artist dedicated to authentic self-expression across multiple creative mediums.
