Gallows

Gallows were an English hardcore punk band from Watford, Hertfordshire, formed in 2004 following the dissolution of Laurent Barnard's previous musical project. The group quickly emerged as a vital force in the UK punk scene, channeling aggressive, uncompromising hardcore energy with a distinctly British edge. Their debut album, Orchestra of Wolves, caught the attention of Epitaph Records, which distributed the record in the United States and helped establish the band's international presence. The band's explosive live performances and raw sonic approach earned them features in prestigious publications including Kerrang!, Alternative Press, and Rolling Stone.
Gallows' trajectory reached new heights when they secured a lucrative £1 million recording contract with Warner Bros. Records, a significant milestone for a punk band. The band capitalized on this major-label backing with their sophomore effort, Grey Britain, released in 2009. The album proved to be a commercial and critical success, with the band achieving rare chart recognition for a hardcore punk act — two songs from their catalogue charted on the UK Singles Chart, demonstrating their ability to connect with mainstream audiences without compromising their unrelenting artistic vision.
Gallows carved out a notable legacy within the hardcore punk canon, particularly in their native UK where they achieved a level of commercial success that eluded many of their contemporaries. Their ability to balance extreme musicality with accessibility helped redefine what was possible for British hardcore in the 2000s, influencing a generation of punk and metal acts that followed.
