Crooked Colours is the alternative dance project of Australian singer, songwriter, and music producer Philip Leonard Slabber, who was born on February 14, 1991. Based in Fremantle, Western Australia, the project was originally conceived by Slabber alongside fellow producer Leon Debaughn in Perth in 2013, with drummer Liam Merrett-Park joining the collective shortly after. Signed to the record label Sweat It Out, Crooked Colours has established itself as a distinctive voice in the alternative dance landscape, blending electronic production with introspective songwriting and atmospheric soundscapes.
The project's creative output began with their debut album Vera, released in June 2017, which introduced listeners to their immersive sonic world. Following this initial offering, Crooked Colours returned with their sophomore album Langata in 2019, further cementing their presence in the electronic music realm and showcasing their evolving artistic vision.
In December 2023, Slabber announced a significant transition for the project, noting that both Debaughn and Merrett-Park were "moving on to the next stages of their lives." Rather than disbanding, Slabber committed to continuing the Crooked Colours project as a solo endeavor, ensuring that the alternative dance vision will persist under his creative direction and artistic stewardship.
